The Catahoula Parish Library will be offering workshops/classes for patrons beginning the middle of August.  The following is a list of classes that we are working on at this time:

  1. Introduction to sewing
  2. Beginner crocheting
  3. Quiltmaking
  4. Quilt making tops for beginners
  5. Forensic Science
  6. First Aid & CPR
  7. Canning and Preserving
  8. Introduction to sewing machines
  9. And many others

Catahoula Parish Library Workshops/Classes

Sicily Island Branch will host classes on Tuesdays, from 12:30 to 1:30 pm. The classes will be as listed below:

  • Introduction to Sewing Part 1- August 14, 2018 at 12:30 to 1:30
  • Introduction to Sewing Part 2- August 21, 2018 at 12:30 to 1:30
  • Introduction to Sewing Part 3- August 28, 2018 at 12:30 to 1:30
    • Note: participants in the Introduction to Sewing classes will need the following material
      • S​crap fabric (about 2 yards), sewing machines, batting, backing, and needle and quilting thread
        • The instructor will have scrap material available for $10 a person if you wish to purchase it there.
        • There will be a few sewing machines available for those that do not have one, however, it would be best to have your own machine, so you can be taught the use of it as you proceed
    • The project that will be made during these classes is a baby/throw blanket


  • Quilt Top Making Part 1- September 4, 2018 at 12:30 to 1:30
  • Quilt Top Making Part 2- September 11, 2018 at 12:30 to 1:30
  • Quilting Part 1- September 18, 2018 at 12:30 to 1:30
  • Quilting part 2- September 25, 2018 at 12:30 to 1:30
  • Quilting part 3- October 2, 2018 at 12:30 to 1:30
  • Quilting part 4- October 9, 2018 at 12:30 to 1:30
    • Supply list will be posted closer to start date


Harrisonburg Library will host classes on Thursdays from 4:00 to 5:00 pm. The classes will be as listed below:

  • Introduction to Sewing Part 1- August 16, 2018 at 4:00 to 5:00
  • Introduction to Sewing Part 2- August 23, 2018 at 4:00 to 5:00
  • Introduction to Sewing Part 3- August 30, 2018 at 4:00 to 5:00
